Teaching
Educational programs for the different degree courses differ slightly and should be requested from their respective secretariats.
GENERAL PROGRAM
- Maxillofacial and craniofacial traumatology: incidence, aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis and therapy of the principal fractures of the facial skeleton: forehead, nose, orbit (integrated with the teaching of ophthalmology), cheekbone, zygomatic arch, maxilla, and mandible.
- Pan-facial fractures.
- Facial and craniofacial malformations :general principles, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, principles of treatment of cleft lip and palate, otomandibular dysostosis, craniosynostosis and craniofacial synostosis.
- Oral cancers, skin cancers, tumours of the salivary glands, craniofacial tumours: in combination with teaching of oral pathology, ENT, ophthalmology. The study of premalignant lesions, aetiology, and pathogenesis of tumours, their biology and clinical behaviour, classifications, and therapeutic principles with particular attention to the main aspects of surgery.
- Surgical removal and reconstruction.
- Basic principles of integrated therapy: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery.
Reconstructive microsurgery: essentials, signs, main applications in oral, maxillofacial, and cranio-maxillofacial surgery. Fibula, iliac crest, anterolateral thigh, forearm, brachial, latissimus dorsi, rectus abdominis and anterolateral thigh free flaps. - Surgery of trigeminal nerve injuries: elements of the pathogenesis and healing of nerve injuries and their classification.
- Incidence, aetiology, and pathogenesis of nerve lesions of the oral cavity: anatomical elements of the lingual nerve and the inferior alveolar nerve. Treatment of nerve injuries, timing of surgery.
- Facial paralysis: aetiology, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms.
Classification and therapeutic setting of immediate, recent and long-standing facial paralysis. Eyelids and smile reanimation surgery. Clinical and therapeutic distinctions between paresis and paralysis. - Deformities of the jaws: classification, diagnostic assessment and principles of treatment planning (orthodontic and surgical) of the main deformities: second class, third class, open bite, asymmetry.
